To make the best of your stay in the Golden Eagle Hide, you would need:
- Binocular
- Photo camera and tripod(take photos only without flash)
- A flashlight with a faint light to help with going to the hide and getting back in the dark
- Something to eat and something warm to drink
- Warm clothes
You do not have to take off your shoes after entering the hide. But we ask you to take all the things(including trash) back with you.
There is electricity in the hide, but no running water. It’s a former sauna building that is turned into a photo hide for the winter. There are 4 photo openings in 2 small rooms situated next to each other. There are also 2 small windows on top of the camera lens openings. The windows are covered with mirror plastic, so the eagles wouldn’t notice you.
The lower photo opening is 10 cm from the floor and the higher one is 60 cm from the floor. For the lower one, you can use a bean bag that we have on the spot. For the higher one, we ask you to take your tripod with you.
Please be aware that the Golden Eagle is very sensitive and has extremely good sight, so be careful when moving the camera lens. Do it only very slowly and only when the eagle isn’t directly looking at you.
There is a dry toilet in the hide. Also, the men have to always sit, when using the toilet. This way the urine is separated from the rest and there won’t be an unpleasant smell in the hide.
You should arrive in the hide already in the dark, so it would be good at least 1 hour before sunrise and leave the hide in the dark (about an hour after sunset).
The parking lot is here – https://bit.ly/eaglehide
Coordinates: 59.21939, 26.82215
Attention: After you have turned down from the Rakvere-Rannapungerja road, continue straight (do not turn right). At the end of the straight road, you will see a wooden bear statue, a shed, and a dry toilet. Leave the car there. To reach the hide, take the path that starts after the barrier. Walk about 250 meters and the hide will be on the right side of the hide.
Hide rules:
• The Golden Eagle has incredible eyesight, so move the camera lens very carefully
• The Eagle also hears well and is sensitive to noise, so be as quiet as possible
• Before leaving, check that you didn’t leave anything behind
